Animal Control

     The Dearborn Heights Police Department employs two full-time Animal Control Officers who have primary responsibility for enforcing animal-related laws and for conducting investigations into animal complaints within the City of Dearborn Heights.  Dearborn Heights Animal Control Officers are also under contract to provide animal control services for the neighboring city of Garden City.  Animal Control Officers are on-duty
 7 days a week from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

     All initial animal complaints should be called into the main police number at 313.277.6770.

Q: Does my dog or cat need to be licensed?
A:  Yes, all dogs and cats residing within Dearborn Heights must be licensed with the city.

Q: Where do I obtain an animal license?
A:  Licenses can be obtained at the City Clerk's office located in City Hall (6045 Fenton). 

Q: How much does an animal license cost?
A:  Licenses cost $5.00 for all dogs and cats that are spayed/neutered and $7.00 for those that are not.

Q:  How many dogs/cats are allowed to live at my residence?
A:  A maximum of three (3) animals total over four months old are permitted to reside at any one residence.

Q: What are pet owners required to provide for animals?
A:  City ordinances require that animals be provided with adequate food, water and shelter.

Q: What time of day may I complain about a barking dog?
A:  A complaint about a dog barking excessively may be made at any time of the day or night by calling the
