Books & Authors: Recommended for: General user, Reading Advice. A database to help you decide what to read next. Search by character, topic, setting, time period, genre, title, author and series. Will also make recommendations based upon likes and dislikes. Michigan residents or Michigan library access only.

Bartleby.com Great Books Online: Classics of literature, nonfiction, and reference online free of charge i.e. Shakespeare, Poe, Confucius, Homer and many, many more.   

Database of Award Winning Children's Literature: Over 7,000 records from 84 awards across six English-speaking countries. Each book is indexed to some degree so users can find it using the form search or the keyword search.

James Patterson's ReadkiddoRead.com: Dedicated to making kids readers for life.  This site has some great reading recommendations for kids of all ages. Books are broken down by age group and then by genres such as fantasy and other worlds, real world fiction, action/adventure/mystery and just the facts (non-fiction).

Joe's List: A local Dearborn Heights resident has gratiously shared his recommended reading list with us.

MeLCat: Recommended for: General user. A catalog of materials available through Michigan libraries. Patrons of participating libraries can order items from other statewide participating libraries and have them delivered to their local library branch.

Michigan Authors and Illustrators: Recommended for: General user, Reading Advice. A searcheable database of Michigan authors and illustrators. Provides biographical and contact information. Indicates whether person will do library presentations. No log-in required.

Michigan Notable Books: The Michigan Notable Books list is the Library of Michigan's annual selection of up to 20 recommended books reflecting Michigan's rich cultural heritage, featuring high-quality titles with wide public appeal that are either written by a Michigan resident or about a Michigan-related topic.

Mittenlit: This website gives you up-to-date information about new books by Michigan authors, books about Michigan and news of authors touring in Michigan. Mittenlit includes tour information, author interviews, news of upcoming literary events at bookstores and libraries and items you won't find anywhere else. 

 NetLibrary: Recommended for: General user. All full text. Over 20,000 eBooks available on all topics. Consider using a keyword search (in the drop-down menu) rather than the default full-text search. Michigan residents or Michigan library access only.

What's Next? from the Kent District Library: The What's Next? database from the Kent District Library helps you search for fiction books in a series. A series is defined as two or more books linked by character(s), settings, or other common traits. You may search by author, title, series title or genre.

WorldCat (free version): WorldCat.org lets you search the collections of libraries in your community and thousands more around the world. You can search for popular books, music CDs and videos—all of the physical items you're used to getting from libraries. WorldCat.org lets you find an item of interest and then locate a library near you that owns it.
