Pet Licensing / FAQs
You may license your dog in person at the Clerk’s Office or by mail. If doing so by mail, please complete the form (which is fillable online), print the application, include the required documents and a check made payable to the City of Dearborn Heights for the proper amount. Your license(s) and tag(s) will be mailed to you.

WHAT ANIMALS ARE REQUIRED TO BE LICENSED?
All dogs and cats 4 months or older must be licensed.
IS THERE A FEE ASSOCIATED WITH LICENSING MY PET?
Yes. The annual fee is $15.00. If your animal is spayed/neutered, the fee is reduced to $8.00. You must provide an up-to-date rabies vaccination certificate when renewing or registering your pet. The following breeds require an annual fee of $25.00, All Pit Bull or Pit Bull mix along with Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and American Pit Bull Terrier. There is not a discount for above mentioned breeds.
All licenses expire on February 28 and there is a $10.00 late fee for all renewals after that date.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT LICENSE MY PETS?
If your dog or cat is not licensed, you risk facing a fine and or other charges.
IS THERE A LIMIT ON HOW MANY PETS I MAY HAVE?
Yes, the limit is three pets per household.
CAN I HAVE A PIT BULL IN DEARBORN HEIGHTS?
Yes, pit bulls are allowed, however the licensing procedure is slightly different. You must provide the Clerk’s Office with two photos of your pet, one front view and one side view. In addition to the certificate of rabies vaccination, you must also have your pet micro-chipped and provide the Clerk’s Office with the microchip number.
