CIVILIAN DISPATCHER (EXTENDED DEADLINE)
JOB SUMMARY: Employees receive emergency 911 calls, complaints, and inquiries from the public, evaluate and dispatch police, fire and emergency medical services.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: The work of this division is maintained 24 hours per day, seven day per week, including weekends and holidays. Employees are assigned to work day, afternoon, and midnight shifts, including weekends and holidays. This is sedentary work. Lunches are consumed at the work station. Breaks can be taken away from the console (workload permitting). Dispatchers do not leave premises during an assigned shift.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND WORK DUTIES:
- Answer police, fire department, E911 telephone calls for service
- Answer the TTD telephone when necessary
- Provide general information to citizens
- Minimum clerical duties include the processing of tickets, vacation checks, periodic checks, LEIN entries, and validating records
- Enter police, fire, and rescue calls for service in to the department computer CAD system
- Keep shift supervisor updated on all significant events
- Provide emergency medical information to callers as required per protocols
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

- Must pass post-offer psychological and physical exam
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must pass written examination/simulation and oral board (panel interview) with a minimum score of 70%.
- Must meet all state and federal standards for LEIN operators in order to maintain employment.
SALARY: Starting salary is $30,515.40 plus benefits after 90 days

ENTRY LEVEL POLICE OFFICER (REVISED QUALIFICATIONS)
Starting salary $36,160 ($60,267 after 5 years of service)
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid, non-restricted Michigan driver’s license. All applicants must have the following documentation at the time of application:
- College transcripts indicating 60 hours of college credit in criminal justice. For applicants who do not have 60 college credits completed, please submit proof of employment as a full-time police officer. Applicants with three years of full-time employment as a police officer do not have the college education requirement. Each year of full-time employment as a police officer will replace 20 college credits in the education requirement. Therefore, candidates may have a combination of college credits and police officer work experience.
- Proof of completion of the Police Academy or proof of current enrollment in the Academy
- For applicants who have completed the Academy, a letter from MCOLES proving certification or ability to be certified
- EMPCO test score (or proof of registration for future exam)
- A copy of MCOLES physical agility certification. To clarify, all candidates must have a current MCOLES physical agility certification or must be registered for the upcoming examination at the time of application.

ACT 78 CIVIL SERVICE PROCESS:
- Must pass Civil Service written examination administered by Dearborn Heights OR EMPCO written examination with a score of 70% or higher
- Must pass an Oral Interview with a score of 70% of higher.
- Must pass background check.
- Must pass post-offer physical examination with a drug/alcohol screening.

Police Service Aide
JOB SUMMARY: To gain a basic understanding of Police Services by assisting officers in their police related tasks to include but not limited to jail operations, processing prisoners, assisting with crossing guard activities, instruction on operational aspects of the Police Department Bureaus, assisting officers with task in the Police Department Bureaus.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: The work of this unit is potentially maintained 24 hours per day, seven day per week, including weekends and holidays. Employees may be assigned to work day, afternoon, and midnight shifts, including weekends and holidays. This is not sedentary work.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND WORK DUTIES:
- Instruction and assisting with crossing guard activities
- Perform Jail Operations to include processing prisoners, monitoring prisoner areas, providing prepared meals for prisoners, minor cleaning/maintenance
- Provide general information to citizens
- Receive instruction on Dearborn Heights Police Department Operations with written/oral testing on instructed material
- Assisting officers while rotating through operational/bureau assignments throughout the police department
- Participation in police ride along program
- Minimum clerical duties include the use of Word and Excel documents
- Keep immediate supervising personnel updated on all significant events
